Editorial: Special Issue on Repeatable Results in Software Engineering Prediction

چکیده
The goal of science is conclusion stability, i.e. to discover some effect X that holds in multiple situations. Sadly, there are all too few examples of stable conclusions in software engineering (SE). In fact, the typical result is conclusion instability where what is true for project one, does not hold for project two. We can find numerous studies of the following form: there is as much evidence for as against the argument that some aspect X adds value to a software project. Below are four examples of this type of problem which we believe to be endemic within SE.

repeatable experiments in software engineering
Welcome to the special issue of Empirical Software Engineering on repeatable experiments in software engineering. Earlier and shorter versions of the papers presented here first appeared at the PROMISE 2007 workshop in Minneapolis. The PROMISE project has been running for 4 years now and aims to create large libraries of repeatable experiments in software engineering. PROMISE is somewhat differ...

For the Special issue on Qualitative Software Engineering Research
Almost twenty years have passed since the first qualitative research study in software engineering was published [14]. Using qualitative methods and a qualitative analytical framework, Curtis, et al. found communication and cooperation to be critical factors in developing large-scale software systems. Given the importance of this study, it is perhaps surprising that research publications using ...
متن کاملEditorial: How Special Should Issues Be?
SOFTWARE testing and analysis continue to be areas in which IEEE Transaction on Software Engineering (TSE) receives many submissions. In this issue, Barbara Ryder and Andreas Zeller guest edit a special section of selected papers from ISSTA 2008, the original papers having undergone signifi cant revision, extension, and substantive peer review. I would like to thank Barbara and Andreas for all ...
